Welcome to Lulu Boop Vintage — a curated world of antique and vintage garments, thoughtfully preserved and reimagined to be worn again. Each piece is one of a kind, carrying its own past and ready to become part of yours.
This slip dress dates to the late 1930s–early 1940s, a moment when lingerie design reached its most poetic intersection of corsetry, fluidity, and modern materials.
Crafted by Myra Joy (USA)—a maker known for refined pre-war lingerie—this piece features an early nylon body, prized at the time for its unprecedented lightness and drape. Nylon had only just entered the fashion world in 1939, making this garment part of the first generation of modern lingerie.
The bodice is constructed in a dramatic corset-inspired, V-shaped panel of gRey lace, echoing late Art Deco geometry and the architectural lines of 1930s eveningwear. The lace extends into a pointed waist, creating a sculptural silhouette that flatters the torso while remaining soft and wearable.
The skirt falls fluidly over the hips in a blush-toned, semi-sheer nylon, finishing with a pleated chiffon hem trimmed with lace insertion—a detail characteristic of pre-1950 luxury slips and increasingly rare today.
Originally intended for a trousseau or elegant at-home wear, this piece now transcends its function. It is equally compelling worn alone, layered beneath sheer garments, or styled as an evening dress with modern accessories.
A true example of lingerie as fashion, created on the eve of wartime austerity—when beauty, craftsmanship, and femininity were still expressed without restraint.
CONDITION
Very good vintage condition consistent with age.
Early nylon remains supple and fluid.
Lace is beautifully preserved.
No structural issues noted.
(Any tiny signs of age are commensurate with an authentic pre-war garment and do not detract from wearability.)
