There are dresses that are beautiful, and then there are dresses that make you stop for a moment.

This rare late 1930s / early 40s evening gown is one of those pieces.

Made in its original powder blue color, it features a beautifully fitted bodice covered in soft tulle, a dramatic bias-cut satin skirt with incredible movement, and a delicate dropped waist finished with a subtle ruffle. The silhouette is unmistakably elegant, fluid, and effortlessly feminine.

To preserve the dress while honoring its history, I added two tonal floral appliqués as part of its restoration. They blend naturally with the original design while discreetly covering areas that had age-related wear.

The gown closes with its original side metal zipper and interior snap closures, beautiful details that reflect its period construction.

Because of its exceptionally small proportions, this piece is best suited for an XXS size, approximately a 22–24 inch waist. Please rely on the measurements rather than modern sizing.

The fabric has a luminous satin finish throughout the skirt, while the bodice is softly layered in fine tulle, creating depth without transparency. The skirt is cut on the bias, giving it extraordinary drape and movement when worn.

A new invisible zipper has been professionally installed to replace the original damaged closure, ensuring smooth wear while preserving the dress’s vintage charm. 

As with nearly all garments of this age, gentle signs of time remain and are considered part of its authentic vintage character.

Very good vintage condition with professional restoration. Original color. Original side metal zipper and snap closures. Two tonal floral appliqués were thoughtfully added during restoration. Minor age-related wear consistent with a garment of this era.
