1890s Ecru Slipper Satin Wedding Gown by Caroline’s Chicago: An exquisite testament to the opulence of the era, this antique silk wedding dress is a vision of timeless elegance. The gown boasts intricate Battenburg lace trim and elaborate embroidery adorning every inch, creating a sumptuous display of craftsmanship.
The slipper satin fabric exudes a subtle warmth in its ecru hue, while the multiple layers of lace trim cascading at the bottom add a touch of romantic flair. The bodice is a masterpiece in itself, featuring padded embroidered floral sprays and meticulously crafted handmade lace, complemented by a high-necked collar and puff sleeves adorned with rows of delicate lace.
Originally tailored for a ship captain’s wife, this custom-made dress is a unique piece of history, proudly bearing the label “Caroline’s Chicago.” While the fair condition echoes its age, the interior silk taffeta lining has been lovingly replaced, ensuring the gown’s continued allure. The restoration process, which included replacing the main lining skirt with beautiful silk and artfully covering pinholes, tiny tears, and stains with period-appropriate antique lace appliques, has resulted in a breathtaking ensemble that captures the essence of a bygone era. This gown stands as an exceptional example of 1890s fashion, blending nostalgia and sophistication in a beautifully preserved masterpiece.
It has been gently soaked in water with soap for delicates. Some pinholes in lace tulle in neck and bodice. Treat it with love and delicately but it can definitely be worn in a wedding ceremony or would be perfect for a movie or theatre production of the era.
Armpits where very damaged and sewn. I covered them with a beautiful antique embroidered tulle of exactly the same color. Last picture are the armpits.

PLEASE CHECK MEASUREMENTS BEFORE PURCHASE! Antique hand made items where handmade and differ to standard sizes. Please check the measurements closely for determining fit. I do not give sizes for vintage items as women's sizes are not standardized and a majority of these dresses were homemade or specialty made to fit one person. Also if vintage items are size tagged they usually run smalller comparing to the actual sizes. A good method to check is to measure a similar item that fits and compare.
If you have any questions about the fit feel free to ask, I am happy to help.

Please Note :
Any accessories used in the picture are not included, there are there to show how the outfit could be worn or a decorative object. I need to be honest. I sell Vintage and Antique Clothing and I would say anything before 30s should be treated with care and worn with care. Mostly these items will be fragile especially 20s silk or Edwardian very fine Muslin. Some can not handle stress and will tear easily. Should be bought a size bigger where possible or should be a little loose on.
Things to consider when buying Edwardian or Victorian clothing:If an item is marked XS but looks loose and big! It maybe has a Medium Shoulder and Hip but the waist is Tiny! (Corsets!). It may look big and loose but the shoulders or opening of the arm will be small, or the waist.
- The sleeves may not be long to the wrist but more of a 3/4.
- Buttons also may vary in shape and size on the same blouse, these blouses are old and would have lost buttons along the way.
Happy to answer any question.
