A beautiful late 1930s to early 1940s white satin nightgown with an elegant, fluid silhouette and exquisite embroidered detailing.
The bodice is the true focal point, featuring delicate floral embroidery and curved sheer panels framed with narrow lace trim. Fine spaghetti straps, a softly shaped V-neckline and a low back create an effortlessly feminine silhouette, while the long bias-cut skirt falls beautifully over the body. The hem is finished with a softly gathered ruffle and delicate lace insertion.
There is no original fabric label, so we cannot confirm the exact fiber content. The fabric has the fluid sheen and drape of satin and may be rayon.
A small floral appliqué was carefully added at one side to conceal a previous area of damage. It blends subtly into the white fabric and gives the gown a thoughtful, one-of-a-kind restored detail.
A wonderfully versatile piece that could be worn as antique bridal lingerie, a romantic wedding dress for an intimate ceremony, or styled as an evening slip dress.
Style it with delicate heels and pearls for a bridal or special-occasion look, or contrast its romantic softness with an oversized blazer, boots and layered jewelry. It also looks beautiful belted at the waist, as shown in some of the photographs.
