Antique Edwardian Bridal Needle Lace Border | c. 1908–1918
About the Piece
An exceptionally rare fragment of early 20th-century bridal lace, handcrafted in fine cotton thread during the Edwardian era, circa 1908–1918. This delicate border was ptobably removed from a wedding gown or veil and preserved as a surviving example of couture-era trousseau craftsmanship.
Executed in hand needle lace, the design features scrolling floral and cartouche motifs connected by openwork bars, forming hearts,
This type of lace was reserved for high-end bridal veils, removable trains, and lingerie underlayers, often worn as part of a bride’s hope chest ensemble. It’s a highly collectible survival pattern in antique wedding textiles.
Era
Edwardian period, circa 1908–1918

Significance
This piece represents the pinnacle of pre-war bridal textile artistry, created at a time when wedding garments were commissioned as heirlooms and constructed entirely by hand. Such fragments are increasingly rare, as most original garments did not survive intact.
