This exceptional antique silk lingerie slip dates to the late 1910s–early 1920s, a rare transitional moment when women’s undergarments shifted from Edwardian structure to modern fluidity.
Crafted in buttery ivory silk, this piece features an extraordinarily rare open V-back design with an original drawstring tie, a functional solution used before the invention of elastic lingerie. The open back allowed the slip to sit invisibly beneath low-backed tea gowns and sheer dresses of the period while offering adjustability without altering the garment.
The bodice is constructed with hand-embroidered silk panels, designed to provide gentle structure and modesty in place of a bra — a hallmark of luxury lingerie from the late teens. The body is softly bias-cut, creating a fluid drape that moves naturally with the wearer, while the hem falls with a subtle, asymmetrical elegance typical of early 20th-century craftsmanship.
These open-back silk slips were worn daily, repaired repeatedly, and almost never preserved. Very few survive intact.

Condition
Honest antique condition consistent with age. Visible silk patina and areas of discoloration, most notably at the bust panels — expected in early silk lingerie of this era. The fabric remains supple and structurally sound, with no shattering. Please review all photographs closely.
How to wear today
Designed originally as lingerie, this piece translates beautifully as a modern dress layered over a nude silk slip, styled with a tailored jacket, or worn as a poetic bridal or trousseau garment. Also with your favorite jeans. An extraordinary collector’s piece with wearable relevance.
