Early 1900s Embroidered Folk Linen Underbodice – From Heirloom to Statement Piece 🪡
This rare early 1900s folk underbodice in crisp natural linen carries not only the beauty of its time, but also the story of a remarkable woman. It comes from the estate of Lydia Gordon, a beloved vintage clothing and jewelry collector who passed away on May 28 at the age of 94. Lydia spent decades curating a collection filled with texture, history, and character—an archive of wearable stories.
The underbodice features a standing gathered collar on an inserted drawcord, an open front, and stoke gathers pleated sleeves with delicate Italian hemstitching at the cuffs and collar. A finely embroidered “GG” monogram, possibly Dutch, adds a touch of mystery. Despite its age, it remains in good condition—with minor thread loss at the collar embroidery, gentle wear to the drawstring, and one thoughtful shoulder repair.
Originally worn as a foundational garment, this piece now feels right at home as a jacket—unstructured, textural, and effortlessly cool.
