Antique Cotton Bloomers with Embroidery and Lace Trim
These antique cotton bloomers are a beautiful example of early 20th-century undergarments, featuring intricate embroidery and delicate lace trim at the hems. Crafted from soft, breathable cotton, they offer both comfort and elegance. The detailed embroidery adds a touch of sophistication, while the lace trim enhances their vintage charm.
I would definitely wear then as shorts in summer. LOVE them.
About Bloomers:
Bloomers originated in the mid-19th century as a form of womens clothing designed to provide greater freedom of movement compared to traditional skirts and dresses. They were loose-fitting pants gathered at the ankles, often worn under shorter skirts. The term bloomers became associated with womens rights advocate Amelia Bloomer, who promoted this style as part of the dress reform movement aiming to offer women more practical and less restrictive clothing options.
Over time, bloomers evolved into undergarments, serving as practical and modest attire beneath womens dresses and skirts. They allowed for greater ease of movement and comfort, reflecting a shift towards more functional fashion during that period.
These particular bloomers, with their embroidered details and lace trim, exemplify the blend of functionality and decorative artistry characteristic of the era undergarments.
Note: Please refer to the provided images for a closer look at the embroidery and lace details.
Measurements:
All measurements are taken with the garment lying flat (in inches). (1 inch = 2.54 cm)
• Waist: up to 23”
• Hips: 27 1/2”
• Leg Width: 14 1/2”
• Total Length: 16”
For reference, the mannequin is a women’s size Large with the following measurements:
• Bust: 38.18” (97 cm)
• Waist: 31.10” (79 cm)
• Hips: 40.94” (104 cm)
Probably a bit big for the mannequin.
PLEASE CHECK MEASUREMENTS BEFORE PURCHASE!
Vintage and antique clothing often differ from modern standardized sizes. Many were handmade for an individual, so sizing can vary. Instead of relying on a labeled size, compare the given measurements to a garment that fits you well. If you have any questions about fit, feel free to ask—I’m happy to help!
Condition & Care
• Vintage and antique items have been previously loved, so small imperfections may exist.
• Hand-dyed pieces: Due to the nature of hand-dyeing, colors may not be perfectly even. Please wash these items delicately, preferably alone or with similar colors.
• Antique fabrics (pre-1930s): Delicate materials such as 1920s silk or Edwardian muslin require extra care. These fabrics can be fragile and should be worn loosely to prevent stress or tearing.
Things to Consider for Edwardian & Victorian Clothing:
• A marked XS piece may have medium-sized shoulders and hips but a tiny waist (corset-era sizing).
• Sleeves are often ¾ length, not full-length.
• Buttons may be mismatched due to age and previous repairs.
