1980s Rick Beach for Patti Capalli Black Sequin Bra Top
Rare 1980s hand-embellished sequin bra top by Rick Beach for Patti Capalli. Made in the Philippines and decorated in Hollywood, this glamorous piece captures the sparkle of the disco and early MTV era. Covered in black sequins with a delicate front button closure and adjustable straps.
Perfect worn as a statement evening piece, styled under a tuxedo jacket or with high-waisted silk trousers for a bold modern look.
Patti Capalli was a high-end resort and eveningwear label popular in the late 1970s through the 1980s, based in Los Angeles and Honolulu. The brand was known for its glamorous, tropical-inspired pieces — often hand-embellished with sequins, beading, or metallic appliqués. Many garments carried the note “Made in the Philippines, Decorated in Hollywood,” as this one, reflecting the company’s production model: beautifully sewn bases overseas, then finished by artisans in California.
Designer Rick Beach collaborated with the label, creating a line that blended Hollywood disco glamour with island luxury — fluid silks, sequined bra tops, caftans, and evening separates meant for cocktail parties and resort wear.
Sold in upscale boutiques and department stores catering to wealthy vacationers and the West Coast social set, Patti Capalli pieces embodied 1980s excess and sparkle, standing alongside brands like Lillie Rubin, Bob Mackie, and St. Martin.
Today, garments from this label are prized by collectors for their craftsmanship, glitzy hand-work, and quintessential Studio 54–era glamour.
